Canonical and monophonic convexities in hypergraphs

چکیده

Known properties of ‘‘canonical connections’’ from database theory and of ‘‘closed sets’’ from statistics implicitly define a hypergraph convexity, here called canonical convexity (cconvexity), and provide an efficient algorithm to compute c-convex hulls. We characterize the class of hypergraphs in which c-convexity enjoys the Minkowski–Krein–Milman property. Moreover, we compare c-convexity with the natural extension to hypergraphs of monophonic convexity (orm-convexity), and prove that: (1)m-convexity is coarser than cconvexity, (2) m-convexity and c-convexity are equivalent in conformal hypergraphs, and (3)m-convex hulls can be computed in the same efficient way as c-convex hulls. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. A general framework for path convexities

In this work we deal with the so-called path convexities, defined over special collections of paths. For example, the collection of the shortest paths in a graph is associated with the well-known geodesic convexity, while the collection of the induced paths is associated with the monophonic convexity ; and there are many other examples. Besides reviewing the path convexities in the literature, ...

Convexities in Some Special Graph Classes - New Results in AT-free Graphs and Beyond

We study convexity properties of graphs. In this paper we present a linear-time algorithm for the geodetic number in tree-cographs. Settling a 10-year-old conjecture, we prove that the Steiner number is at least the geodetic number in AT-free graphs. Computing a maximal and proper monophonic set in AT-free graphs is NP-complete. We present polynomial algorithms for the monophonic number in perm...

Detour Monophonic Graphoidal Covering Number of Corona Product Graph of Some Standard Graphs with the Wheel

A chord of a path $P$ is an edge joining two non-adjacent vertices of $P$. A path  $P$ is called a monophonic path if it is a chordless path. A longest $x-y$ monophonic path is called an $x-y$ detour monophonic path. A  detour monophonic graphoidal cover of a graph $G$ is a collection $psi_{dm}$ of detour monophonic paths in $G$ such that every vertex of $G$ is an internal vertex  of at most on...

Decomposability of abstract and path-induced convexities in hypergraphs

An abstract convexity space on a connected hypergraph H with vertex set V (H) is a family C of subsets of V (H) (to be called the convex sets of H) such that: (i) C contains the empty set and V (H), (ii) C is closed under intersection, and (iii) every set in C is connected in H. A convex set X of H is a minimal vertex convex separator of H if there exist two vertices of H that are separated by ...

Application of hypergraph theory in chemistry

We investigate hypergraphs as mathematical model for representation of nonclassical molecular structures with polycentric delocalized bonds. The questions of identi0cation and canonical coding of molecular hypergraphs are considered. In order to recognize isomorphic hypergraphs, the canonical forms of incidence matrices are to be found. The algorithm for construction of canonical incidence matr...
